Things I missed

I wrote this back in May of 2011, right before I retired form driving a truck. I hope you enjoy!


I saw the aftermath of Katrina
I’ve seen tornado ravaged towns
I’ve seen peoples livelihoods washed away by floods
I’ve seen forest and mountain sides ravaged by fires
...

I’ve driven through sleet, snow, and blizzards
I’ve fought wind, rain, and storms with zero visibility
I’ve witnessed peoples lives changed in a heartbeat
I’ve seen some come to an end
Ever time I do I think of my family I left at home
Thank God He always brought me home
I’ve chased the American dream
More money is why I took this trade
But the time has come to move on

I’ve seen the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans
Been to the Gulf of Mexico too
I’ve seen Mexico and Canada
And been to most points in between
45 of 48 continental states
Over 1,500,000 miles traveled
I’ve seen sites and wonders people dream to see
I’ve seen death and destruction
I’ve seen the Mercies, Miracles, and the Beauty of God
I’ve seen and witnessed things and events
People have seen on TV or read about in the paper
Along the way I found God
6 years I’ve traveled this land
Of all the things I’ve seen and witnessed
What matters to me are the things I’ve missed
My baby girls Taylor and Brittany were 8 and 5 when I started to drive
They will be 15 and 12 in just a few weeks
Along the way Alyssa was born she’s now 4
I will not waste anymore years
I’m turning in my keys I’m walking away
For all I’ve seen is not worth the things I’ve missed
